A Patent is the grant of a property right to the inventor issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO.

There are three distict types of patents:

Patents typically last 20 years from the date that the application was filed. During that time, your invention is publicly known as your property. Having a patent issued by the USPTO does not grant "the right to make, use, offer for sale, sell or import", but instead gives you "the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling or importing the invention."

However, the USPTO does not enforce patents; it only issues them.
It is the patentee's or owner's responsibility to actually enforce it.
In order to protect your patent, you will need legal support to stand by your side.

Stockwell & Smedley has years of experience in Patent Law and we stand firmly with our clients through every step of the process. If you think you may be eligible for a patent, please Contact Us Today.
